Monkeytoe XBEAM
The Aluminium Beam & Platform System Built to Replace Traditional Steel
Traditional steel I-beams are heavy, slow to fabricate, and require hot work on-site. XBEAM is Monkeytoe’s engineered aluminium beam platform system, designed to carry the same structural loads with less mass, faster installation, and zero welding required.
Faster. Lighter. Stronger. It’s the beam, raising the bar.
ABOUT THE SYSTEM
WHAT IS XBEAM?
XBEAM is a modular, high-tensile aluminium beam system reinforced with carbon fibre, engineered as a structural replacement for steel I-beams in rooftop plant platforms and long-span applications.
Manufactured from T6 aluminium, each beam is pre-engineered off-site, arrives ready to assemble, and connects to portal frames without any hot work or welding on-site.
The result: a fully certified, high-load structural platform system that is up to 65% lighter than the steel equivalent, with better acoustic performance, faster install times, and less loading on your supporting structure.

WHY SPECIFIERS CHOOSE XBEAM
Up to 65% lighter than steel equivalents
Reduced dead load on your building’s supporting structure means less costly reinforcement, simpler logistics, and the ability to lift and position panels by hand, e.g., no heavy crane required for most configurations.
No hot work. No welding. No delays
All connections are fully isolated and pre-engineered. Because there’s no welding on site, you avoid hot work permits, fire watches, and the delays that come with them. Ideal for occupied buildings and tight construction programmes.
Fully modular and prefabricated off site
XBEAM’s modular design supports maximum off-site prefabrication. Packages arrive on site pre-assembled and ready to go, dramatically reducing on-site labour hours and programme risk.
No backstays; gain ~600mm of platform
Conventional screening systems require backstays that consume platform space. XBEAM’s structural design eliminates them, giving you approximately 600mm of extra serviceable platform area, or the ability to reduce your overall platform footprint.
Superior acoustic performance
XBEAM’s low-deflection design delivers better acoustic performance than comparable steel beams. This is a critical factor on mixed-use and retail projects where noise transmission matters.
Fully sealed construction
Each beam is manufactured as a sealed unit, protecting internal components from moisture ingress over the life of the installation.
XBEAM STRUCTURAL PLANT PLATFORMS
The XBEAM Structural Plant Platform is the complete system solution, bringing together the XBEAM beam, Monkeytoe’s platform decking, isolated portal frame connections, and compatible screening options into one fully engineered rooftop platform.
Designed for HVAC plants, mechanical equipment, and other rooftop installations, the platform system is configured to your specific span, load, and site conditions before being prefabricated for rapid on-site assembly.
PLATFORM FEATURES
- Configurable spans from 4m to 20m+
- Designed for high-load HVAC and mechanical plant
- Fully isolated connections to portal frames, i.e., no galvanic corrosion risk
- Compatible with Monkeytoe XGRATE flooring and all standard decking types
- Roof penetrations supplied with appropriately sized Dektite boots (installed by roofing contractor)
- Available in 10m x 4m, 10m x 8m, and 20m x 8m standard configurations, plus custom
COMPATIBLE SCREENING SYSTEMS
SCREENING OPTIONS
A range of screening options are compatible with the XBEAM Structural Plant Platform, either as integrated elements of the platform or as standalone barriers and screens.
OUR NO BACKSTAYS ADVANTAGE
Most screening systems require backstays to transfer wind loads from the screen back to the structure. On XBEAM platforms, the structural beam design eliminates the need for backstays entirely.
This is not a minor detail. It means you gain approximately 600mm of extra usable platform width – space that can be used for additional equipment, maintenance access, or simply allows you to specify a smaller (and less expensive) platform footprint overall.
TRUSTED BY AUSTRALIA’S LEADING ARCHITECTS, ENGINEERS AND CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES.
XBEAM has been specified and installed on projects across Australia and New Zealand for more than a decade. Our clients include some of the country’s most demanding construction FIRMS, where programme certainty, structural performance, and long-term durability are non-negotiable.

Aluminium vs Steel The Ultimate Showdown
Aluminium has long been seen as a premium, quality product but now its versatility is really being realised. At Monkeytoe, we’re passionate about encouraging ‘Construction Influencers’ to look at the whole picture when it comes to construction, and it’s in this context that aluminium’s true benefits shine.
